Operating partner Tony Marchese and Executive Chef/co-owner Mark Van Laanen have invested in their dream restaurant, banking on simple comfort food with a very contemporary flare.  The extensive menu features a variety of fish, steak, organic salads plus seasonal items from local growers and farmers.  From starters like his signature Wisconsin cheese plate, to Lamb Shank, braised in Burgundy, rosemary and garlic, served with lentils, Mark changes up the menu often.  Try their artichoke hearts or calamari appetizers – they are to die for!

Tony and Mark engage the community with charitable events like sold out dinners to support music in education and The Art Institute of Palm Springs High School, Dine Out for Life, the Palm Springs International and Short Film Festivals and Hollywood’s Biggest Night Oscar Party supporting AIDS Assistance Program.

Beat the summer heat with a comedy classic!

The Palm Springs Art Museum has once again teamed up with the Palm Springs Film Society to produce a free weekly Classic Comedy Series on Thursdays from August 9 – September 6, 2012.

The Palm Springs Art Museum is pleased to present the summer 2012 FREE film series in its Annenberg Theater. Once again, the museum has teamed up with the Global Film Initiative to offer a unique and varied series of foreign films called Global Lens 2012 from may 31 – August 2.

Following this series, the museum will offer a series of 5 classic comedy films selected by the Palm Springs International film Society. Offering a film from each decade spanning the 1930′s through the 1970′s, these films will surely delight our audiences.

Palm Springs International ShortFest is renowned worldwide for the extraordinary community of filmmakers it attracts, and for the quality and scope of its programming. ShortFest 2012 will present more than 300 short films from over 50 countries. The ShortFest Film Market will make available 3,000 films to film buyers, industry representatives and the press.

Viewed from the road, this desert park only hints at its vitality. Closer examination reveals a fascinating variety of plants and animals that make their home in this land shaped by strong winds, unpredictable torrents of rain, and climatic extremes. Tahquitz was the first shaman created by Mukat, the creator of all things. Tahquitz used his great power in the beginning for the good of all people.  He became the guardian spirit of all shamans and gave them power to do good. But over time, Tahquitz began to use his power for selfish reasons, and also to harm the Cahuilla People. The people became angry and they banished Tahquitz to this canyon that now bears his name. He made his home high in the San Jacinto Mountains in a secret cave below the towering rock known today as Tahquitz Peak. They say his spirit still lives in this canyon, and can sometimes be seen as a large green fireball streaking across the night sky. The strange rumblings heard deep within the San Jacinto Mountains, the shaking of the ground, and the crashing of boulders are attributed to Tahquitz as he stomps about the canyon.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway (www.pstramway.com),  constructed in rugged Chino Canyon on the north edge of Palm Springs , did not just happen. It required foresight, planning, financing and, most of all a vision. It was the dream of a young electrical engineer named Francis F. Crocker to “go up there where it’s nice and cool”. Crocker’s dream began in 1935 while he was on a trip to Banning, California, with newspaper publisher Carl Barkow. Mopping his brow in the heat of the day, Crocker gazed on longingly at the still snow-capped peak of Mt. San Jacinto 10,834 feet high. At that moment, “Crocker’s Folly,” as it was soon dubbed by one newspaper woman, was born – a tramway up the sheer cliffs of Chino Canyon.
